ACT Bootcamps

ACT Bootcamps are optimal for students who are looking for a more affordable alternative to 1-on-1 private tutoring, and/or whose schedules are overcrowded with multiple obligations. By placing the instructional content in a single-day, full-day format, students are empowered with the material and strategy to continue practicing in the time period between the Bootcamp and the ACT test date. ACT Bootcamps are optimally designed for students navigating in the 18-24 range.

“A Team” Tutors

All classes are taught exclusively by the company’s two founders who have over 66,000 hours of combined tutoring experience and take the test yearly.

Best Score Increases

Our group classes achieve larger score increases than the big-box companies’ private tutoring programs, which are often led by inexperienced college student tutors. We publish all of our results!

ACT Bootcamp Structure and Description

  • The ACT is an exam that is much more amenable to a “bootcamp”-type format than the SAT. While both tests require persistent effort to excel at, the section structure of the ACT allows dedicated students to frontload the majority of the material in a group bootcamp session and follow it up with on-their-own practice and/or individual ACT tutoring.
  • The class consists of a diagnostic ACT exam and an 8-hour bootcamp. This bootcamp usually takes place 2-4 weeks before the actual exam to allow room for post-bootcamp fine-tuning. Students who do the best tend to do significant homework between the bootcamp and the actual test.
  • For our group classes, we keep classes engaging with two-way material, real-life examples, and short quizzes to test newly learned concepts.
  • Parents are strongly encouraged to check in with their students often after the bootcamp and before the ACT exam to monitor homework progress.  The last six bootcamps have seen the highest-improving person improving at least 4 points more than the lowest improving person, and homework after the bootcamp is the main driver of that difference.
  • It is strongly recommended that students take the exam immediately following the course, while the material is fresh.
  • Students are highly recommended to bring a TI-84 CE model graphing calculator to the Bootcamp, since strategies for the math section are based on this calculator that most students use. Students who do not use a graphing calculator on the test are at a severe disadvantage on the Math section. If a student has a TI-83 or TI-84 Plus but a younger sibling has the TI-84CE, please have them trade. There are many valuable features on the 84CE that are not on the 83.

ACT Bootcamp Frequently Asked Questions

We get that question all the time, and the answer is yes. We regularly get feedback from parents who have previously done other ACT preparation elsewhere (e.g. classes of 20+ hours or individual tutoring of 20+ hours) who tell us that our one-day Bootcamp was more effective than those months of prior preparation elsewhere. The quality and experience of the tutor matter more than the number of hours in the class. Learn more about our tutors >

ACT Bootcamps contain the 8.5 most important hours of our gold standard comprehensive 18-hour ACT classes. The bulk of the 10 hours covered in the full-length ACT Class but not in the ACT Bootcamp is English and Math, but especially the advanced math that has been becoming increasingly advanced these past 36 months. Students who are shooting for a 28 or above on Math and/or are considering UGA (the mid-range for UGA’s Early Action admits in Fall 2021 was 31-34) should take the longer-format ACT Class, since 90%+ of the advanced math concepts that truly matter only in the 28-36 score range for math (the top 12% of the score curve) are not covered in the abbreviated Bootcamp format. Additionally, UGA only utilizes the English and Math scores and discards the Reading and Science scores in its admissions decisions.

  • “The Bulb” (Edison Prep’s very own ACT guide)
  • The Real ACT Study Guide (from the makers of the test)
  • Students are expected to arrive to the mock test and bootcamp on time.
  • Students will be expected to put in at least an equal amount of time after the workshop in order to cement the material that they have learned and achieve optimal results. For students with lower starting scores and/or very ambitious score increase goals, more time outside of class is especially critical.
